Into the Dirt He Came

From God’s living and perfect Garden, we were thrust. 

The enemy’s mocking! Death’s knocking! Dust returns to dust!

Born to the results that could not be reversed.

In the Pain of Childbirth, on the ground that was cursed,

In a dusty manger, in the dirt He came.

Not high and exalted. Without fanfare or fame.

This King, so gentle and lowly even at birth,

His presence foretold. Come to save the entire earth.

Against the sea of sin, and the flood of God’s wrath,

He parted the waters and provided a path.

We were trapped and hopeless! No way out could be found.

But He led us through the sea, our feet upon the ground.

By providing a rescue on ground that was dry,

This deliverance-- God’s way to signify,

The ground that was cursed is no longer our station.

In faith, it’s become our glorious foundation.

As predicted, the Messiah, God’s sacrifice,

The only one worthy, His perfection precise.

Shrouded in flesh and laying his glory aside,

taking God’s wrath against our addictions and pride.

With arms stretched wide He said, “It is finished!”

The light of world slain, but never diminished.

Willing to bear our curse, into Dirt He became.

His death claims the victory over our sin and our shame.

Bending and writing with his finger on the ground.

Offering forgiveness-- let this magnitude resound!

Where is rightful Condemnation? It has no place.

Our future is secured by His abounding grace.

He stands with us saying, “where are your accusers?”

Words of death, shame, and defeat are reduced to rumors.

“Go and sin no more.” A pardon, we’ve been granted.

As a living branch in God’s vine, we have been planted.

From the creator, the beauty of life flows.

Planting and tending--In the Dirt does He Grow,

With patience, wisdom, and long-suffering, He bears

A garden so lovely, beyond all compare.

In God’s Garden is growing a branch that abides.

He’s grafting, He’s pruning His clean, unsoiled bride.

Within his pure, nutritious, non-polluted soil,

Grow the seeds of rest, removing all our toil.

The valleys will be raised up, the mountains made low.

His grace will redeem, and His justice will flow.

Truth is revealed, the crooked path will be made straight.

Every Injustice, the Judge will vindicate.

Through the clouds in the sky, one day he shall return.

To take home His broken and bandaged cistern.

The King of all kings will reign forevermore.

In radiance, in glory, in His full splendor.
