Reflections on Exodus

A Beautiful Path
God took the Israelites on a beautiful journey through the wilderness before bring them into the promised land.
What is your journey?

Brainstorming:
List the major events that have happened in your life to lead you where you are today?

Mirror: Make it Personal
How is God using your story? Ask God to reveal to you how he will use these hardships and open doors for his glory.
What fears and failures from your past are holding you back from stepping into what God has in store for you?

Get Creative:
- Map these events on a timeline.
- Draw a String of Pearls and write how events of your life are strung together.
- Draw a Treasure Map. Put major life events on the map with dashed lines linking events together.
Journal your thoughts:
The power of journaling is not in the fluidity of your words but rather the capturing of your thoughts to reflect on later. I find the following to be the most effective.
1. Brainstorm an idea
2. Summarize and Journal your thoughts.
3. Ponder the main idea over the week allowing the disruptions and coincidences of your week to highlight areas in your life.
4. Revisit your lists and add events of your week to your list.
5. Try capturing the journey in the wilderness in a work of art or in a poem to encourage attention to detail and to discover nuances in the story that you may have overlooked. -Or- use the Poem to the right and consider how it might make you see the journey in the wilderness in a new light.

A Beautiful Path
By Angela Guy
Jesus, you know every move that the enemy makes.
You are so aware of each action the enemy takes.
You hear each cry made in misery and desperation.
Your rescue reaches out to us, O God of creation.
Nestled safely in you, through the flood of the Father’s wrath.
Jesus, you lead your people on a beautiful path.
You are my pillar of strength. You came down and lit the way.
Surely your goodness and mercy follow me every day.
O beautiful path leading me to the promised land.
O beautiful path that tests me in a dry wasteland.
O beautiful path, your truth keeps me from stumbling.
O beautiful path, your ways keep me from crumbling.
O beautiful path, an escape on a narrow road.
O beautiful path, where mercy and abundance flow.
Scared to embrace the unknown, distress makes us hasty.
We look to the past with longing, so eager for safety.
O God be my strength, staunch this flow of traitorous thoughts.
That dares to reduce your goodness to what this world allots.
Show me that my slavery is gone. Highlight its brevity.
Remove the pain of my past that seems to wound endlessly.
Even in this desert, I will abundantly succeed.
Tho my hands are empty, God, your presence is all I need.
Teach me to follow you out of the boat and on to the sea.
Show me that when I am drowning you will always reach me.
Teach me to follow you into the shadowy valleys.
That your protection extends to the darkest of alleys.
Teach me how to enter the furnace; the heat has increased.
I know you enter in with me, my marvelous High Priest.
Teach me to follow you, bearing my cross unto death.
Living solely to serve you with every draw of my breath.
